Badminton Techniques, The Life of Badminton
Over here I will be covering the different badminton techniques and what are they for. Here is a simple table breakdown of the techniques used in the different places.
To make things simple, badminton has techniques I classified into four different areas/parts

- Serve ~ The very first swing to start the rally
- Front Court ~ Near the net
- Mid Court ~ The center of the court or the sides of the center e.g side defend
- Rear Court ~ The techniques executed furthest away from the net, also known as baseline
And within each area there are various skills as well! Here is a further breakdown of the different skill-set.
The Different Areas and Techniques
Serve / Service
Often while you’re practicing you’ll be hearing all sorts of people giving you random advices on how you should be doing a particular technique, my advice is before you follow any tips, make sure to personally evaluate whether is it effective or efficient for badminton!
- High/Long Serve
- Short Serve
- Flick Serve
- *Drive Serve (Not recommended for leisure play)
- Lift / Clear
- Net Kill
- Net Shot
- Block
- Side Drive Shot
- Lift / Clear
- Lob Shot
- Smash
- Drop Shot

Don’t worry, although they may seem a lot, start with one from each area (one from the front, mid and rear) than to focus on all the different skills on one area! Take one baby step at a time and you'll be flying in no time!
Rush learning everything and you risk not really knowing anything at all! Take your time and practice, and make sure you focus hard while practicing, it’s about quality, not just quantity!
Though you may fail often and have people laugh at you, persevere on and when you play on court, trust me, nobody’s going to be laughing at you!
