Different Grips
Yes in badminton there are situations in which you will need to use different grips! These are some of the reasons why we change grip.
1) So that we can efficiently deliver power to the stroke
2) More consistency in our shots
3) Faster swing
And this is absolutely necessary as a foundation so that you are able to have much more powerful shots(As you get better), better flexibility of the wrist and better deception. So I highly recommend you start with good habits so you won't have to face the hassle and difficulty of un-learning and re-learning in the future.

The Serve
A classified the Serve as a category of it's own because to many beginners do not understand the difference having a good serve can make, nor how to receive a good receive by the pros, so by understanding how it's done you can more effectively score points with the serve and react to good services.
Badminton Techniques
In badminton techniques, there are the racket techniques, and the footwork techniques. There are lots of different techniques so to briefly explain for both racket and footwork techniques, I've grouped them into the rear court (aka Baseline), mid court and front court (aka Net Play). Don't worry that it may sound like there are lots to learn, as when you get along in your badminton journey, you'll realized that most recreational playing don't know and have never heard of proper forms but still play really well! So while this helps make you a better player, I would recommend focusing on getting the gripping and footwork correct first.
Badminton Footwork
The last part is the footwork! Having mobility on court is extremely essential, as no matter how skilful you are, if you can't reach the shuttle, the skill can't be used! Footwork is all about efficiency on court, to get to the particular sport as fast as possible with ease, just like a duck; Smooth and unruffled on top, by paddling furiously underneath!
Apart from all the pride and glamour that comes with being able to gracefully fly around the court, I want you to first understand that why basic footwork is an important necessity is because it protects you from unnecessary stress at your joints, ankles and hips. And I have seen so many people having knee injuries, muscle tears and loose joints due to bad footwork and worse, they don't know why.
I hope this brief explanation have been helpful to you in prioritising what to learn and I hope you truly get involved and love the sport just as much as I do! If you have any questions please feel free to leave a comment below and help share this with your friends so they stay safe and can improve on their game the right way.
